Årebonaden - a tribute to the history, landscape and culture of Åre.
For a long time we thought the originals were lost, but then they unexpectedly turned up, unmarked, at the bottom of our archive.
That's where the work of bringing this classic motif back to the printing tables began.
The motif was created by Paul Sahlin, and is a rich narrative piece of Jämtlandic pictorial tradition. Here you will find Åre's mountain world, the funicular, Åre church, reindeer and grouse, and the well-known trail crosses that guide winter and summer hikers through the mountains. A sign points out classic destinations such as Storlien, Duved, Tännforsen and Blåhammaren - like a piece of travel history in textile form.
The motif also includes a depiction of Nils Thomasson (1880-1976), the Sámi photographer who documented life in Sápmi and Jämtland for several decades. His portraits and photographs are an invaluable part of the region's cultural heritage.
Each Årebonad is printed by hand in our printing house in Jämtland, using water-based pigment inks and the same craftsmanship method that has been used since 1946.
The result is a textile that carries both tradition and history - a motif that combines nature, people and places in a carefully composed pattern.
A unique part of Frösö Handtryck's heritage, created to live on in homes where the mountains and its history mean something deeply.
Part of the proceeds from the bonade goes to the Åre parish homestead association
The bonade has sewn channels for easy hanging.
