Frösö hand printing
Our history

1946
The foundation of Frösö Handtryck
In 1946, what was to become Frösö Handtryck was founded by the young entrepreneur Enar Ström in Östersund. Enar, who had previously worked as a decorator at Stockholmsmagasinet, saw an opportunity in textile printing and started his business under the name Firma Enar Ström. He was soon joined by advertising artist Evert Lindahl, and together they laid the foundation for the company's future.

50s
Tourism creates opportunities
During its heyday, Frösö Handtryck printed over 10,000 pennants with over 1000 unique motifs. Their products were appreciated all over the country and exported to international markets, including Germany and America. The technique used, known as film printing, impressed both customers and experts. This period was a heyday for textile printing in Sweden, and Frösö Handtryck was at the center of it.

1957
Evert Lindahl takes over
When Enar Ström suddenly passed away in 1957, Evert Lindahl took over the business, now under the name Frösö Handtryck. Under his leadership, the range was further expanded with bonades and textiles with traditional Swedish patterns. Above all, the Jämtland bonade, created by the artist Paul Sahlin, became an iconic product that found its place in many Swedish homes.

The 60s
Frösö Handtryck expands
During the 1960s, the company grew rapidly and moved to larger premises on Frösön. With a capacity to print over 10,000 pennants per week and more than 1,000 unique motifs, Frösö Handtryck became a leading player in textile printing. In addition to souvenirs, the company also printed fabrics, and started collaborating with several Designers.
Paul Sahlin is the artist behind the well-known bonades for Swedish landscapes and parishes that Frösö Handtryck began printing in the 1960s. He drew eleven different Swedish landscapes and even more parishes for the characteristic and beloved bonades before he died in 1988. The bonades have become synonymous with a sense of home for generations of Swedes and especially for the Jämtlanders!

1970-1980
MOVE TO THE CRAFT HOUSE AND NEW PROFILE
Helmer Bernt continues the business on Frösön. The print shop profiles itself with bonades and flower patterned tablecloths. The name Frösö Handtryck AB is now officially used.

1985-1995
