Provocative and innovative are words that often describe Carl Johan De Geer and his work. De Geer has worked in most aesthetic genres as a visual artist, photographer, musician, writer, set designer, cultural journalist, filmmaker and designer. We are very proud to present the reprints of the patterns "Dragons" and "Dandelion" that were set up in our printing house for
THE CAR MUSEUM in Umeå in connection with the exhibition "Carl Johan De Geer - The Great Misconception" 2019.
PATTERNS IN THE COLLECTION
"Dragons" is drawn around 1964. Winding dragon-like figures seem to gape over the generously sized lotus flowers. The inspiration for the pattern comes from childhood. A young De Geer lived in Belgium and received a Tintin album every Christmas, and the cover of 'Blue Lotus' inspired the creation of the 'Dragons' pattern. The lotus flower is recurrent in De Geer's designs.
"Dandelion" is a pattern De Geer designed in the late 60s and early 70s when he was commissioned by the textile department of the Cooperative Union to create a number of patterns for the department stores PUB, Domus and the department that was aimed at the public environment. Dandelions in large format and in different stages of life in almost brilliant colors have filled the entire printing house when we worked with them. You can't "look" at De Geer's designs, they take their place.
